Beneficial Technology for Seniors!

Posted by Ruby Cemental on Apr 24, 2018 5:30:00 PM

family_tech_senior-LRThere are many technology devices that have been on the market for years. It can take some time and patience to learn how to use new things but there are perks to learning. Today we want to talk about two types of simple technology we recommend seniors try out. These items have been available for years, and it is never too late to learn how to use them and learn why they are so beneficial.

FaceTime with Family

It is becoming more common for seniors to have cell phones, but some individuals still stray away from touch-screen technology. The one perk of having an iPhone that many users will agree on is the FaceTime capabilities. FaceTime is essentially making a phone call, except your camera is working and you can see the person you are calling. This feature is only available when you are calling other iPhone users. FaceTime is excellent for seniors to have a more personalized interaction with their long-distance family or even family nearby on a day-to-day basis. Maybe there is a new grandchild that lives out of state... having an iPhone and the ability to FaceTime will offer the opportunity to still form a relationship with your new grandchild from the start. Watch them grow, take their first steps, and experience many other important moments through the camera!

Play with an iPad

Yes, you are correct. These have been around for quite awhile now. Still, many individuals do not want to jump on board with trying this device out. iPad's can be pricey, but many brands have created various alternative (instead of Apple) tablets to choose from. Tablets are great for exercising your mind. Studies have shown that completing puzzles and playing strategy games keep your brain "healthy". Some studies have even gone as far as saying, these types of mental exercises can prevent the onset of dementia and Alzheimer.

We can't deny that there are some "advancements" that are mind-boggling, but the two items mentioned above do seem to have some serious benefits.
